(Formerly the Parenting Through Divorce Seminar)

FEES ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN CLASS.  PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE OF THE CLASS. 

WHO:

Required for all divorcing parents and allocation of parental responsibility cases, (in El Paso & Teller Counties), of children between the ages of 0-18, within 45 days of filing and before final orders can be set.

WHAT:

CFIT CLASS:  There will be two videos shown:  The videos will highlight the effects of divorce on children and how to reduce negativity and help your child/ren in a proactive and positive manner.  There will be an attorney and/or mental health professional volunteering their time at the class. They will answer questions and share insights to help parents through this process.

WHEN:   Please arrive early. You will NOT be admitted if you are late.

2nd Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

4th Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

3rd Friday of each month (not the last Friday) from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm

270 S. Tejon Street, Room 113 (Jury Assembly Room)

CLASS COST:

There is a $40.00 fee (per person) which must be paid in advance of class.  Please note that if you have an attorney, they do not prepay your CFIT fees.

HOW TO PAY: Payments must be paid in advance of class. No payments will be taken during class.

1. Cash or Money Order or Credit Card Payments will be taken at the CASA Office:  CASA is located at 701 South Cascade Avenue (on the corner of Cascade and Rio Grande).  CASA office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 to 5:00.  When making payments at the CASA Office, you must provide your name and your DR Case Number. You must bring your  paid receipt to class.   

2. Credit Card Payments online: Submit your payment below. If payments are made on the day of the class, please bring your receipt to class with you. Note: If you have trouble entering your Domestic Relations (DR) case number in the form below try entering zeros; For Example: 00DR000. Be sure to indicate your actual DR case number on your receipt for class. 

WAIVER OF FEES CRITERIA

Any Individual who is receiving assistance from Colorado Legal Services can present a Certification of Determination of Indigency (JDF 203) signed by a Colorado Legal Services attorney to receive a waiver of the CFIT Fees.

Any individual with a Finding and Order Concerning Payment of Filing Fees (JDF 206) signed by the Court, which waives his/her filing fee is eligible for a waiver of the CFIT fee. Forms JDF 203 & JDF 206 can be obtained here.

If a party cannot obtain a JDF 206 or JDF 203 then CASA MAY grant a waiver of payment on a case by case basis.  To be considered for a CASA waiver,  party must be able to show at least ONE of the following proof of documentation that you are receiving:  food stamps, WIC, disability wages or unemployment wages. This documentation must have your name on it and  needs to be brought to the CASA office to be copied. Please include your name, case number and your phone number on the top of this copied documentation.  The CFIT Supervisor will then call you back within 5 days to let you know if your CASA waiver has been approved.  No waivers will be granted during the Seminar, THIS MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL WELL BEFORE CLASS.  Any questions please call CFIT Supervisor at 447.9898 ext. 1025

ITEMS TO BRING TO CLASS:

  1. Your Case Number, paper & pencil, and desire to learn.
  2. Your receipt of payment with your case number.
  3. If your fees are waived, please bring either:

a. Court signed JDF 206  (Finding and Order Concerning Payment of Filing Fees) or
b. JDF 203 Certification of Determination of Indigency (this only applies if you are receiving assistance from Colorado Legal Services).
c. Your CASA waiver

CHILD ARRANGEMENTS:

Children are NOT ALLOWED in the class under any circumstances. The items discussed are not appropriate for them to hear. If you bring your children, you will be dismissed and asked to return without your children at a different time.

You may arrange for child care in advance for the Friday CFIT Seminar through Court Care which is a free child care service for court approved activities.  In order to arrange the Friday Court Care Services, You must make arrangements in advance. Arrangements/reservations must be made by Monday at 4 pm for the Friday class.   Please call 452.5499 to make the arrangements. There is no child care for the Wednesday Seminars as they are held after business hours.

PARKING:

For Wednesday evening classes: You may park in the Jury Parking lot on the southwest corner of Cascade and Vermijo.  If you choose to park on the street, note that there is no fee for parking meters after 6 pm – but you will have to provide money to the meter from 5:30 (start of class) until 6:00.

For Friday Noon Classes: The best option for parking is the public parking garage on the northwest corner of Tejon and East Costilla Street.  There is no break taken during the class to allow you to feed the meters.  There is also free parking a few blocks from the courthouse (approximately 3 blocks west, east and south).
