Did you know that in 2017, more than 16,000 calls were made to the Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline in El Paso and Teller Counties? The Pikes Peak Region has the highest number of child abuse reports in the entire state of Colorado.
Hundreds of these children enter foster care each year and get caught up in the family court system. It's a frightening, uncertain time for a child. It's especially traumatic for the child whose voice is not heard. But there IS a solution.
THE CASA MODEL WORKS
CASA of the Pikes Peak Region currently serves 700 of these children with volunteer advocates. These advocates stick by the child, and stick up for the child for the duration of the case. They make sure the child's voice is heard. We know the CASA model works because a child with a CASA volunteer finds a safe, permanent home twice as fast as a child without a CASA volunteer.
WE NEED TO CLOSE THE GAP
There is a gap. At least 200 children in El Paso and Teller counties are still waiting for a CASA volunteer, and the number of children in need will increase as our population continues to grow.
