CASA Day - April 21, 2008

The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed April 21, 2008 as “CASA Day” in El Paso County with the following Resolution:

Resolution

WHEREAS,  child abuse and neglect is a community problem and finding solutions depends on involvement among people throughout El Paso County; and

WHEREAS,  Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region trains volunteers to be a voice in court for children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or severe domestic conflict, and promotes community awareness of these issues; and

WHEREAS,  there were over 10,000 reports of child abuse and neglect made to El Paso County’s Department of Human Services last year and hundreds of children in need of advocacy in the courts; and

WHEREAS,  all citizens should become more aware of the long lasting negative effects of child maltreatment and its prevention within the County and become involved in supporting CASA’s efforts to ensure that abused children receive advocacy and services that result in them living in safe, permanent homes; and

WHEREAS,  citizens can partner with CASA to ensure that victims of child abuse have the opportunity to thrive; that we come together to end the cycle of abuse, and that these children can grow up and become productive community citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of El Paso County call upon all citizens to join in CASA’s effort to prevent child abuse and neglect.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of El Paso County, Colorado hereby proclaims April 21st as “CASA Day” in El Paso County, Colorado.
