Local Companies Honored for Promoting Philanthropy and Volunteerism
Chase Bank and The Picnic Basket
honored with CASA 2011 Corporate Partner Awards
Representatives of local businesses met at The Warehouse restaurant in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, July 26 at a reception hosted by CASA of the Pikes Peak Region. It was a gathering of companies of all types, both large and small, but all with something very special in common – they have a heart for the community in which they do business and believe in giving back both financially and through volunteerism.
“Despite the economic stresses felt by all in the last few years, so many local businesses still generously supported our community," said Sherri Newell, CASA Board Chair. "This dedication and investment helped CASA provide healing and hope to nearly 1,000 children in the past year alone."
CASA received recent financial or in-kind support from more than 300 companies in the 2010/11 fiscal year. Two of those companies received special recognition for their ongoing generosity. The 2011 CASA Corporate Partner Awards were presented to Chase Bank, represented by Timothy Howell and Greg Shaw, and to the Picnic Basket Family of Companies, represented by co-founder Michelle Talarico.
Chase Bank has been a CASA partner since 1995 with many employees serving as program volunteers and board members. This year Chase was a Silver sponsor of the CASA Light of Hope fundraiser. Chase also connects CASA with local trusts administered by the bank to even further support our programs. Gifts from Chase and affiliated trusts to CASA total over $266,000.
The Picnic Basket was also honored for their commitment to philanthropy. Over the years the company has donated thousand of dollars worth of catering services for CASA business meetings, appreciation events, and staff retreats. In partnership with Spruce Mountain Guest Ranch last year, the Picnic Basket hosted a family fun day for CASA children and their families to enjoy games, hikes, fishing, and of course delicious food. The event raised over $5,000 for CASA through sponsorships and ticket sales, and they will be holding a similar event again this fall.
CASA extends its sincere appreciation to all local buisnesses who have supported CASA's work to ensure safe environments and lasting homes where children in need can thrive.
About CASA of the Pikes Peak Region
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization serving El Paso and Teller counties that trains and supervises volunteers to represent the best interests of our most vulnerable citizens - victims of child abuse, neglect, and severe domestic conflict. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court and in the community. The desired result is that children are placed into safe, loving homes where they can thrive.
