Children
and Families in Transition (C-FIT)
(Formerly the Parenting Through Divorce Seminar)
The Children and Families in Transition (C-FIT) seminar seeks
to create a sense of awareness for parents who may be going
through some type of litigation regarding their children (divorce,
separation, paternity, post-decree, parental responsibility
actions). The Fourth Judicial District partnered with community
professionals to develop this program in 1993; it is now mandatory
for all individuals going through this type of litigation if
they have children under the age of 18. The program seeks to
educate parents on the negative effects of parental conflict
and issues such as effective and appropriate communication
between the parents. The program lasts two hours and is held
the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m.
to 7:30 p.m. and the third Friday of each month
from noon to 2 p.m. A mental health professional and a family
law attorney will be present. Resource materials are available
at the seminar and there will be the opportunity to ask one-on-one
questions of the professionals at the end of the class. Only
one attendance is mandatory. CASA oversees the seminar and
serves as the facilitator.
If you plan to attend, please bring your case number. If you
need a place to leave your children during this time, contact
Court Care at 448-7747 for a reservation. No children may attend
this seminar. No pre-registration is required unless you have
a protective order in place. If you reside outside the Fourth
Judicial District, you must bring a $25 payment with you. For
those residing within the Fourth Judicial District, your fees
were included in the filing fee.
