Other Programs
1. The Domestic
Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT)
Program seeks to identify individuals who pose significant
risk to
their past or present intimate partners through acts of domestic
violence. The purpose of the collaboration between DVERT and
CASA is to ensure issues involving children of domestic violence
are addressed.
2. The Milton Foster
Children’s Fund provides foster children
in El Paso and Teller Counties with opportunities not funded
through existing agencies or programs, allowing them to
be nurtured, educated and enriched just like other children,
and grow into healthy, contributing adults. In reviewing applications for funds, highest priority will be given to requests for essential items that will add to their resiliency. Foster Children's Fund programs include:
FCF General Application Fund
The Foster Children’s General Fund is designed to help foster children where there are gaps in available funding. The general fund has helped children visit family members, buy instruments, straighten teeth, and buy contact lenses when health care would only cover eye glasses. The general fund gives preference to anything that will help build a child's resiliency. Some items would include lessons ( music, karate, dance...), school items not covered by DHS or mandated by the courts, and activities that help build self-esteem. FCF fund has facilitated and/or fully or partially funded horse back riding lessons, equine therapy, science projects, senior pictures, tattoo removal, European school trip, computers, gymnastics classes, swimming lessons,
braces, trips to see relatives, roller blades with pads and helmet, tutoring only when absolutely unavailable through conventional channels, and art supplies.
FCF North Pole Event
The Foster Children’s Fund North Pole Festival has been an annual event since 1977. In 1978, it was moved to The North Pole, which provided unlimited access to all rides for foster children and their foster families. Attracting approximately 700 participants each of the last six years, the event provides a day of fun and recreation for families that otherwise would not be possible. Through the years, local churches, private businesses, and community groups have donated food, money and volunteers for the event.
The North Pole is: Home of Santa's Workshop
