SUMMARY:Court Report Writing Training
DESCRIPTION:As you know\, the court report is the main way we are able to inform the court as to what is occurring on our cases.  If a report is brief\, has incomplete information or is tedious to read\, this deters the professional team from carefully reading and learning about the case from the CASA perspective.  CASA reports should be held to a high standard for CASA to remain as a credible\, important\, independent observer of the cases we work on and the children we work with. \nThis training will reinforce aspects of a good report as well as emphasize objective writing styles.  Even if you have been writing reports for a long time\, this training will help you\, or you can help others\, continue to write substantial court reports. We look forward to seeing you at the training. \nPlease RSVP to Kate at katherineg@casappr.org

DESCRIPTION:Life Long Links Workshop \nTuesday\, June 18th from 5:30-8:30pm at the CASA office \nWorkshop Overview: \nDoes your CASA child have caring adults (who are not paid to be there) providing support and love? Does your CASA child know his family history and “where he/she comes from”? Is there a solid back-up plan for your CASA child if the current plan fails? Who will come to his/her school performances or graduation? The Life Long Links in-service will help you think more deeply about the value of connections\, how to research and organize information\, and how to get started with doing outreach to possible connections/reconnections. If your CASA child could benefit from this type of active advocacy\, please join us on the 18th. We would love to see you! \nRSVP to Jillian at jillianw@casappr.org.

SUMMARY:SEPT Facilitator Volunteer Info Hour
DESCRIPTION:It’s important for children to develop and maintain healthy relationships with both of their parents! What happens when the parents don’t have custody of the children? It can be difficult to maintain these relationships. That’s why CASA operates its Supervised Exchange & Parenting Time (SEPT) program. When there is a court order in place for supervised visits\, SEPT Volunteer Facilitators provide a safe environment for kids to interact openly with one or both non-custodial parents. \nBy monitoring and documenting observations during court-ordered child-parent visits\, SEPT volunteers support individual safety\, accountability\, and healthy relationships between children and parents who are involved in conflictive custody or domestic violence cases. \nWe invite you to learn more about what it is involved with being a SEPT Volunteer! \nJoin us for a light lunch on Monday\, May 20. SEPT staff will be on hand to give you an overview of the program\, and there will be plenty of time for your questions as well! Please RSVP to Uriko at urikos@casappr.org. \n

SUMMARY:Thinking Errors
DESCRIPTION:Marta Puchala\, Director of The Family Center\, will be giving a training on thinking errors on May 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the CASA office. Thinking Errors\, also called thought distortions\, are a way of thinking that keeps us from having to face uncomfortable truths when making life decisions and relating to others in our day-to-day lives. They are selective ways of dealing with facts that justify our choices. Remember that we all use them. Come learn about thinking errors\, how they play a part in the lives of the children/families we serve\, and how we can change our own thinking errors to improve our lives. Please RSVP to Kate Grondin at katherineg@casappr.org.

SUMMARY:The Bench 1st Anniversary + CASA fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Bench is celebrating it’s 1st anniversary downtown by hosting an event with CASA to help support our “Start With One” program. \nThere will be a silent auction and they will be collecting donations\, as well as donating a portion of their sales for that day. The Bench and Odyssey Gastropub will be providing food\, and we will be joined by Angela Rose\, CASA’s Executive Director\, who will be addressing the attendees. \nIt costs $1\,500 to provide one child with a year of this valuable advocacy. The Bench’s goal is to fund this program for at least three children. So\, on its 1st birthday\, they’re asking that you spend the evening with celebrating our wonderful community by making it just a little bit better\, and helping The Bench\, CASA\, and the entire Pikes Peak Region “Start With One”. \nIf you have an item you’d like to donate to the silent auction\, or can’t make it on the 25th and still want to donate please contact charlie@thebenchcs.com.
