SUMMARY:Fostering Futures Training
DESCRIPTION:Attention Advocates and Peer Coordinators:  If you’re on a case with a youth age 14-21 or planning to take a case in the future serving a teen\, then Fostering Futures is for you! \nFostering Futures benefits your casework and provides tools to help our young people when transitioning toward independence.  Foster teens struggle with decision making\, support systems\, healthy emotional and social attachments\, and are at high risk for poverty\, homelessness\, victimization\, criminal involvement\, low educational achievement\, and more.  The Fostering Futures program engages youth ages 14-21 and is intended to reverse these trends and improve outcomes as they prepare to leave the child welfare system. \nIn the words of our Advocates and PCs:  “This training is a must for every advocate assigned to a teen.”  “The Fostering Futures training opened my eyes in so many ways.”  “I now have so many tools and resources and I feel much more confident about what I can do.” \nThere are two components of training: \n\nA Self-Paced Online Component to be completed before April 21\, 2018 (2-4 hrs)\nIn-Class Training:  Saturday\, April 21\, 2018\, 8:30am – 5:00pm (7.5 hrs)\n\nBreakfast will be provided and lunch will be on your own. \nThe In-Class Training will be held at the CASA office located at 418 South Weber Street\, Colorado Springs. \nPlease register by Friday\, April 6th to Janet Stoddard\, JanetS@casappr.org (719) 286-0846.  Information on training binders and online instructions will be sent to you by April 9th.

SUMMARY:Youth Sexual & Gender Identity: Becoming a Frontline Resource
DESCRIPTION:This in-service at CASA’s office will be presented by Maegan Brundage of Inside/Out Youth Services and Michael Maestas\, CASA Dependency and Neglect Supervisor. Our LGBTQ+ youth are one of the most vulnerable populations in society and within the Child Welfare System. The rate of suicide is 4 times higher within this population and it is important that we are educated and are able to develop our skills in advocating for this very vulnerable population. This in-service will help volunteers become frontline resources.  Personal thoughts\, perspectives and views may be challenged.  A youth panel will be present for Q&A.  Participants will practice forming recommendations in order to apply this information on their case and within their communities. RSVP to MichaelM@casappr.org
