SUMMARY:Family Treatment Courts (View from the Bench series)
DESCRIPTION:August 29\, 12-1pm \nZOOM \nBetween sixty and eighty percent of substantiated child abuse and neglect cases handled by the courts involve substance use disorder (SUD) by a parent or guardian. Family Treatment Courts serve children\, parents and families involved in the child welfare system due to parental SUD as a contributing factor to child abuse or neglect. These courts operate collaboratively\, drawing on community partners’ expertise in child welfare and SUD treatment. In addition to providing support to the children and youth\, and information to the court\, CASA/GAL volunteers can play an important role in identifying available community services to address the needs and build on the strengths of each family member. \nRegistration: https://nationalcasagal.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_iypxMrunSguICkRrD7qHRA#/registration \nProgram ID #: 10073 \nOrganization: CASA PPR \nJob Title: Advocate \nPlease note: If you are unable to attend the live presentation of the training\, we encourage you to register\, as you will receive a post-training email from the National CASA/GAL Association with information on how to access the recorded session\, along with any related collateral materials. In-service credit is awarded regardless of how you participate\, either live\, day of or by accessing the recording.

SUMMARY:View from the Bench: Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:September 26th\, 12-1 pm \nZOOM \nAs many as 4 out of 5 victims of child trafficking have spent time in foster care. SUMMARY:View from the Bench: Active vs. Reasonable Efforts
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 31st\, 12-1 pm MDT \nZOOM \nCourts are required by federal law to make “reasonable efforts” findings in child welfare cases unless the case involves the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). In those cases\, the court is required to make “active efforts” findings. This webinar will explore the differences between “active efforts” and “reasonable efforts” and the important role that CASA/GAL volunteers can play in supporting children and families\, providing information to the court about active and/or reasonable efforts\, and identifying needed resources for the child/youth\, family\, and community. \nWhat if those resources don’t exist in the community? What role\, if any\, should the CASA/GAL program have in identifying those resources? \nRegister: https://nationalcasagal.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_pqIB1xQNT1Or0X_4TmY2-A#/registration \nProgram ID #: 10073 \nOrganization: CASA PPR \nJob Title: Advocate \nPlease note: If you are unable to attend the live presentation of the training\, we encourage you to register\, as you will receive a post-training email from the National CASA/GAL Association with information on how to access the recorded session\, along with any related collateral materials. SUMMARY:DHS Safety and Risk Assessment
DESCRIPTION:DHS Safety and Risk Assessment \nRSVP to brennad@casappr.org \nEver wondered what goes into deciding if children should be removed or stay in the home after a call to the hotline is made? Join us for an in-service (in the CASA training room) to learn exactly what questions and conversations must be had to determine when DHS removes children. Our guest presenter\, Dan Mills\, who has worked at DHS for 30+ years\, will go through the safety and risk assessment that the county uses and answer any questions we may have. Then\, converse with your fellow advocates about our own socioeconomic bias and recognize when our recommendations and opinions qualify as safety issues versus preferences.
