Children & Families in Transition (C-FIT) – Classroom attendance

FEES ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN CLASS.  PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE OF THE CLASS. 

WHAT:
The Children and Families in Transition (CFIT) class is held once a month at CASA of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs. The class educates parents about the effects of divorce on children and how to reduce conflict to help their kids through the process in a proactive and positive manner. An attorney and mental health professional will facilitate the class and offer guidance, insights and resources.

WHO:
Required in the 4th Judicial District (El Paso & Teller Counties) for all parents of children under the age of 18 filing for divorce or for allocation of parental responsibility cases. This seminar must be completed within 45 days of filing and before final orders can be set.

WHEN:   Please arrive early. You will NOT be admitted if you are late.
2nd Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

WHERE:
CASA of the Pikes Peak Region: 418 S. Weber Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

CLASS COST:
There is a $65.00 fee (per person) which must be paid in advance of class.  Please note that if you have an attorney, they do not prepay your CFIT fees. See requirements to receive a waiver below.

HOW TO PAY: Payments must be paid in advance of class. No payments will be taken during class.After filling out the form below, you will be taken to a secure payment page.

  1. Cash or Money Order or Credit Card Payments will be taken at the CASA Office:  CASA is located at 418 South Weber Street and the office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 to 5:00.  When making payments at the CASA Office, you must provide your name, your DR Case Number, and your phone number. You must bring your paid receipt to class.   
  2. Credit Card Payments online: Submit your payment below. If payments are made on the day of the class, please bring your receipt to class with you.

WAIVER OF FEES CRITERIA

Any Individual who is receiving assistance from Colorado Legal Services can present a Certification of Determination of Indigency (JDF 203) signed by a Colorado Legal Services attorney to receive a waiver of the CFIT Fees.

Any individual with a Finding and Order Concerning Payment of Filing Fees (JDF 206) signed by the Court, which waives his/her filing fee is eligible for a waiver of the CFIT fee. Forms JDF 203 & JDF 206 can be obtained here.

If a party cannot obtain a JDF 206 or JDF 203 then CASA MAY grant a waiver of payment on a case by case basis.  To be considered for a CASA waiver,  party must be able to show at least ONE of the following proof of documentation that you are receiving:  Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, TANF, or Colorado Works. This documentation must have your name on it and  needs to be brought to the CASA office to be copied. Please include your name, case number and your phone number on the top of this copied documentation.  The CFIT Supervisor will then call you back within 5 days to let you know if your CASA waiver has been approved.  No waivers will be granted during the Seminar, THIS MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL WELL BEFORE CLASS.  Any questions please call CFIT Coordinator at 447.9898.

ITEMS TO BRING TO CLASS:

  1. Your Case Number, paper & pencil, and desire to learn.
  2. Your receipt of payment with your case number.
  3. If your fees are waived, please bring either:
  4. Court signed JDF 206 (Finding and Order Concerning Payment of Filing Fees) or
    b. JDF 203 Certification of Determination of Indigency (this only applies if you are receiving assistance from Colorado Legal Services).
    c. Your CASA waiver

CHILD ARRANGEMENTS:

Children are NOT ALLOWED in the class under any circumstances. The items discussed are not appropriate for them to hear. If you bring your children, you will be dismissed and asked to return without your children at a different time.

PARKING:

For Wednesday evening classes: You may park in the parking lot at CASA of the Pikes Peak Region. You may also choose to park on the street.
