A second-hand store in the CASA office in downtown Colorado Springs is targeted specifically for teens in foster care. Every Saturday, foster teens in El Paso and Teller county can go to The Hanger and pick out five items free of charge. Last year there were 352 teens who shopped at The Hanger. Aug. 11, 2019/KOAA: CASA seeking male volunteers to help children
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region said this area of Colorado has more calls to the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline than anywhere else in the state. In 2018 alone, they said there were over 16,000 calls, and of those calls hundreds of children were removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. CASA said they are always searching for more volunteers to help these children, and they could especially use more men. Watch the segment here.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates that carry on the fight against child abuse and neglect held their annual “Santa Shop” Tuesday. Volunteers from CASA got to pick out toys and clothes for their appointed children at the event. Being removed from friends and family around the holiday can be difficult, and kids who’ve been removed from their homes often can’t take many things with them. Watch the segment.

CASA for children had its beginnings in the Seattle area in the late 1970’s. CASA of the Pikes Peak Region got its start in 1989 after studies conducted by the Junior League of Colorado Springs indicated child abuse victims in El Paso and Teller county did not have proper representation and advocacy. It should be noted that after 27 years, over 13,000 children’s lives have been changed for the better in the 4th Judicial District. Listen to the podcast.

Oct. 3, 2018/KOAA: CASA kicks off donation campaign to ensure every child is served
A local non-profit that helps find a safe and loving home for foster children kicked off its latest donation campaign Wednesday night. CASA, or Court Appointed Social Advocates, stands up for kids removed from abusive or neglectful homes. The volunteers work to protect children unable to understand the legal process or what is happening as a result of being removed from a dangerous environment. Watch the segment.

Oct. 3, 2018/Fox 21: Child abuse calls rising in El Paso Co., local organization needs community’s help
CASA of the Pikes Peak Region launched their community campaign with a reception at the Pioneers Museum on Wednesday night. The campaign ensures a voice in court for every abused and neglected child in need of advocacy in the Pikes Peak region. The Pikes Peak region has the highest number of calls made to the child abuse and neglect hotline in the entire state of Colorado. Last year, that hotline received over 16,000 calls. For speaker after speaker, involvement with CASA of the Pikes Peak Region came about because “I am for the child.” The impact of those words was never lost during the 18th annual Light of Hope breakfast and lunch fundraisers April 25 at The Antlers hotel. CASA of the Pikes Peak Region’s Milton Foster Children’s Fund helps youth in foster care achieve their full potential thorough opportunities not funded by other agencies. The fund helps pay for tutoring, art and music lessons, sports fees, therapeutic and medical needs, and other things that give a foster child a sense of resiliency. Nov. 17, 2017/The Independent: CASA moves to new location on Weber Street
CASA of the Pikes Peak Region now has all five of its programs under one roof after having three separate locations. The organization relocated to a larger renovated spot on 418 S. Weber St. Nov. 11, propelling it closer to its goal, of serving all children in need of an advocate, by 2020. Read the article.

A new home is open for CASA of the Pikes Peak Region. The new space includes The Hanger boutique for foster teens to pick out clothing and get some work experience. There’s also a more inviting area for supervised exchange and parenting time. Watch the segment.
