The Hanger

It’s a simple concept that most of us take for granted, but for a foster kid, being able to choose and wear your own clothes builds self-esteem. The Hanger fulfills this need for local teenagers who are living in foster care due to being victims of abuse, neglect, or domestic violence.

The Hanger is located in the back of the CASA office at 418 South Weber Street, and is open from 1:00 – 4:00 on Saturdays. During store hours, foster teens can shop for donated clothing and accessories, free of charge.

Besides shopping, the teens have the opportunity to help operate the store which provides them with valuable work experience. Many foster teens have no job experience, making it difficult to find employment when they turn 18 and age out of the system. While working in the store, teens go through the complete hiring and training process, and are mentored and coached by adult volunteers.

How to Donate to the Hanger

We are committed to giving local teens in foster care the best possible shopping experience. We have worked hard to create a boutique-like setting that looks and feels new and clean. In order to achieve this, we accept donations that meet the following guidelines:

  • Sorted items in popular teen styles, sizes, and brands
  • Clothing can be new or gently used and washed
  • In-season (we are unable to store clothes that are out of season)
  • Personal hygiene items must be new and can include full-size shampoos, conditioners, body wash, cologne or perfume, nail polish, hairbrushes/combs, hats. Bras, underwear, , boxers, and undershirts also need to be new, and teens love colors and cute styles.

We do NOT accept furniture, household items, decorations, out-of-season clothes, clothes that are not teen sizes and styles, and clothes that are not in good shape (i.e. holes, rips, stains, have an odor). And we are currently are not accepting school supplies or luggage.

Donations may be dropped off at the CASA office, 418 S. Weber St., Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm or Saturdays from 1pm-4pm.
