18 new CASA volunteers sworn in on Friday

March 26, 2021 (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Eighteen community volunteers were sworn in as officers of the court by El Paso County Judge Dennis McGuire during a CASA of the Pikes Peak Region swearing-in ceremony over Zoom on Friday.

The swearing-in ceremony was the final step taken by these citizens after five weeks of training which covered topics like trauma, resiliency, poverty, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and the role of the CASA volunteer.

Now, as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs), these volunteers will be appointed to an open Dependency & Neglect case by a judge so that they may speak up for a child and ensure that child’s best interest remains front and center during court proceedings. These volunteers will be a steady and trusted presence for abused and neglected children as they navigate the child welfare system.

Congratulations new CASA Volunteers Briana Bench, Rachel Bigelow, Nate Bluhm, Kyle Brutsche , Monica Ding, Jamie Gage, April Getz, Courtney Gilmore, Monika Hannan, Kristian Hecklau, Mark Henjum, Sarah Hundemann, Stephen Lenzo, Julie Parker, Tara Ruberg, David Seals, Debbie Schutz, and Thomas Tritsch!

CASA is always recruiting new volunteers and anyone interested in applying should attend an upcoming Volunteer Information Session. The next two available are on April 13 and April 29 and more information, including a link to RSVP, can be found at www.casappr.org.
