Colorado Springs Independent Living Guide for Foster Teens

Colorado Springs Independent Living Guide 1-24-14.pub

As teens in foster care approach legal adulthood, they face tremendous obstacles, including the expectation that they will be able to succeed on their own when they turn 18.

The Colorado Springs Independent Living Guide is a fantastic tool for teens who are aging out of the foster care system. It is a comprehensive resource guide to help Pikes Peak region teenagers gain the support they need in order to transition successfully into independent adults.

Topics include navigating a lease, how to open a bank account, accessing education, transportation, health care, housing assistance, food and nutrition, voter information, and much more.

As a project for CASA, the guide was passionately produced by Leadership Pikes Peak’s Leadership NOW! class of 2012.  The class members published the guide with a few words of encouragement to foster teens: “We want you to know that there are a lot of people out there, people you have never even met, that are invested in your success.”  -LNOW! Class of 2012

Our thanks also to the Teen Activities volunteers at The Hanger who update the guide, and do so much to support foster teens.
